Doug & Don Sprosty

THE Calling Twins!

Twin brothers, Doug & Don Sprosty began calling in 1972 at age 12.  You could say they have square danced their entire lives as their parents, Leonard & Mae (both deceased) began modern western style square dancing in 1958, the year before Doug & Don were born.

Doug & Don call an average of 3-5 nights per week up through the Advanced program.  They are the club callers and instructors for the Solo Steppers in their home area of Davenport and Bettendorf, IA.

The twins travel throughout the Midwest calling mostly in Iowa, Illinois, and Wisconsin as well as many of the surrounding states.  Doug also cues the rounds at many of their dances.

Doug & Don have called at every National Convention since 1973.  The same is true for the Iowa State Convention.  They have called at all but two Wisconsin State Conventions since 1976 in addition to calling at many Illinois State Conventions and other state conventions as well.  Doug & Don also have been on the program at two Canadian National Square Dance Conventions.  The twins have been members of CALLERLAB since 1981.

Over the years, Doug & Don have been the featured callers and/or staff callers for weekends and festivals in Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, Arkansas, California, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Pennsylvania and Wyoming.  For many years they were active in the square dance camping organizations calling at countless National and State Camporees all over the U.S. and Canada.

In 2001, Doug & Don were inducted into the Iowa State Callers & Cuers Hall of Fame.  The twins record on Solid Gold Records of Burlington, IA. Their 2024 releases are titled “Not Gonna Cry Over You” and “Before The Next Teardrop Falls”.

Doug lives in Davenport & retired from his day job, as a bookkeeper, in May 2024.  Don & his wife, Natalie, live in Bettendorf.  Don retired from his day job, also as a bookkeeper, in May 2023.  They love the freedom that not having day jobs gives them to pursue more calling opportunities.

Don & Natalie have two sons.  Roman, age 21, lives in Los Angeles, CA.  Andrey, age 20, attends college in Grand Junction, CO.  The boys were adopted by Don & Natalie in 2006 from an orphanage in Siberia.

Known for their smooth interesting danceable choreography, as well as their melodic harmonies and genuine zest for life, Doug & Don look forward to seeing you on the dance floor.
